Fifteen (15) minute makeup routine

Hello everyone!

For those of you who are always on the go, finding the time for a comprehensive beauty routine can seem like a luxury. However, with the right techniques and products, you can achieve a polished look in just 15 minutes. If you've enjoyed my previous post on the 5-minute makeup routine, you'll love this slightly more detailed version that allows for a bit of extra flair without taking up too much of your morning.

Step 1: Skin Prep (1 Minute)

First things first, you need a good base. Start by cleansing your face if you haven't already. Apply a lightweight, hydrating moisturiser to ensure your skin is ready for makeup application. If you have dry skin, consider adding a hydrating serum before your moisturiser. Don't forget an SPF for daytime protection. This step should take about a minute, as you'll want the products to sit on your skin while you move to the next steps.

Step 2: Primer (1 Minute)

A primer is crucial for makeup longevity, especially if you're in a rush. Choose a primer that matches your skin type - matte for oily skin, luminous for dry. Smooth it over your face with your fingers or a brush. This not only helps your makeup last longer but also gives you that little extra time for the moisturiser to fully absorb.

Step 3: Foundation or BB Cream (2 Minutes)

For a 15-minute routine, I recommend a BB cream over a full-coverage foundation for speed and ease. However, if you prefer more coverage, go for a light to medium foundation that you can blend quickly. Use your fingers or a beauty blender for application. Blend from the centre of your face outwards, ensuring an even coverage. If you need extra coverage in areas, dab on a bit more product only where necessary.

Step 4: Concealer (1 Minute)

Quickly dot some concealer under your eyes, on any blemishes, or around your nose if you're prone to redness. Blend with your fingers or a small brush. Remember, this isn't about perfection but enhancement, so keep it light.

Step 5: Setting Powder (1 Minute)

To set everything in place, especially if you're dealing with oily skin, dust a light layer of translucent powder over your T-zone. This will help control shine throughout the day. Use a fluffy brush to apply; you just want to set, not bake.

Step 6: Blush or Bronzer (1 Minute)

Add some colour to your cheeks with either a blush or bronzer. If you're aiming for a natural look, a cream blush that you can blend quickly with your fingers is ideal. For contouring, apply bronzer where the sun would naturally hit - the hollows of your cheeks, your temples, and your jawline. But remember, with time constraints, less is more.

Step 7: Eyes (4 Minutes)

Here's where we can add a bit of personality without going overboard.

  • Eyeshadow: Choose one or two matte shades that complement your skin tone. A neutral palette works wonders for a natural look. Apply a light shade all over the lid, then a slightly darker one in the crease for definition.
  • Eyeliner: Keep it simple. A tight line at the upper lash line can open up your eyes. If you have more time, flick out a small wing for drama.
  • Mascara: Two coats on your top lashes and one on the bottom should suffice. Wiggle the wand at the base of your lashes to get that volume.

Step 8: Brows (1 Minute)

Define your brows with a brow pencil or a pomade. Fill in any sparse areas with light strokes, then brush through with a spoolie to soften the look. If you're out of time, just use a clear gel to set and define.

Step 9: Lips (1 Minute)

Choose a lip product that complements your outfit or mood. A tinted lip balm or a sheer lipstick can give colour with minimal effort. If you want something bolder, apply with a brush for precision.

Step 10: Setting Spray (1 Minute)

Finish with a setting spray to lock in your look. Not only does it keep everything in place, but it can also give your skin a refreshed look.

And there you have it - a chic, quick makeup routine for those busy mornings!
