Hello everyone!
Today Malta celebrates 58 years of Independence from the United Kingdom. For many, this day marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn (fall). This year, autumn officially begins at 3:03 on Friday, September 23rd, in Malta (autumn equinox). The following Monday, many Maltese pupils will return to school for another academic year.
Here, September and October are great months weather-wise, as warm days start to give way to cooler nights. After months of blasting the AC, the beginning of autumn often brings cooler breezes that allow us to finally keep the windows open; unless it's raining, that is!
Autumn is a beautiful time of year. Sure, some find it sad that summer is over, especially the youngsters. But that doesn't mean that autumn isn't deserving of our love. If you are a fan of Halloween and the holidays, you probably love this season as much as I do.
A while back, I wrote a post titled Ways to bring spring into your home; similarly, today, I will share some tips to make your home feel cosier this autumn.
These are my tips:
Blankets and cushions
Adding a few cosy pieces like blankets and cushions in warmer neutral tones is the easiest way to instantly warm up a room. Soft furnishings can bring the element of warmth to any living space.
Bedding
Make sure to change your bedding for fall. Add layers, change up the fabric, and adjust the colours. Add some cosy blankets and throw pillows too. Besides being warm and comfortable, you can use them as accent colours.
Carpets
If you add an area rug, it will instantly give the space a relaxed and warm feeling.
Doormat
Swap out your front door mat for an autumn-themed one.
Wreath
Hang a seasonal wreath on your front door.
Decorations
Add autumn-coloured flowers and centrepieces. You can use pumpkins and acorns, fairy lights and lanterns.
Candles
Candles are a natural way to add warmth to your home. Try some classic autumn scents like, pumpkin, apple, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Plants
Whatever the season, plants always add an element of cosiness to your home. Adding plants will make your home feel more lived-in.
There is no need to spend a fortune on redecorating for every season. If you make a few small, clever changes, it will still make a tremendous difference.
These are only a few ideas I came up with; if you have more, feel free to share them in the comments section below.
Happy Independence Day to all my compatriots!
Talk to you soon,
