Hello everyone, Happy New Year!
Today, the 1st of January is Rascal's third birthday! For those of you who do not know, Rascal is my stubborn Maltipoo. He is my first dog, and to be honest, I never thought I'd be one of those pet guardians that celebrate their dog's birthday. But, since Rascal is a New Year's pup, and my family and I always celebrate at home, we don't pass the opportunity to also celebrate his birthday. My father's birthday is on the 30th of December, so it's a three-day celebration at our house! My dad is Rascal's favourite person; it might have something to do with the fact that they are both Capricorns!
Birthdays are celebrated to make someone feel extra special on the anniversary of their birth. Dogs don't get it, so any birthday celebration is only for our amusement. Our dogs are part of the family, so when it comes to their birthday we want to make it special. There are plenty of fun and easy ways to make your dog’s birthday unforgettable. Here are some ideas:
Host a birthday party.
Invite some of your friends and family over, along with their furry friends. Make sure the dogs get along before inviting them to the party.
Let your dog pick out a gift.
If you are getting your dog an extra special present for their birthday, try letting them pick it out themselves.
Make a dog-friendly cake or treats.
You can show your dog some extra love on their birthday by making them a special treat. You can find plenty of recipes on the internet.
Prepare a homemade meal for your dog.
Rascal is a very picky eater but, he devours every meal I cook for him! Most dogs will prefer a home-cooked meal over kibble or wet food any day.
Explore a new trail with your dog.
You can make your walk extra special on their birthday by taking them somewhere brand new. Explore a new hiking trail together or take your dog to a new park.
Pamper and spoil your dog.
Spoil your dogs and give them some extra love and attention on their birthday. Give them a nice homemade meal, an extra-long walk, a new toy, a relaxing massage, and extra cuddles.
On his birthday Rascal gets some presents, a homemade meal, a long walk and lots of cuddles!
