Tips for staying hydrated during the colder months

Hello everyone!

Generally, we tend to think that summer is the season we should be concerned about dehydration due to warmer temperatures. However, did you know that dehydration is common in winter?

During the colder months, I have trouble drinking the recommended amount of water. I simply don't feel thirsty when I'm freezing! I'm sure many people can relate to this. So how do we stay hydrated in winter?

Staying hydrated during this season is not as difficult as you might think. Here are a few tips:

  • Watch your caffeine consumption.
  • Include broths and soups in your diet.
  • Drink more herbal teas.
  • Drink warm water with lemon.
  • Eat more winter fruits such as; grapes, pears, cranberries, pomegranates, apples, oranges and more.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle with you and refill when necessary.
  • Make water your drink of choice for meals and snack times.
  • Avoid sugary beverages such as soda or energy drinks.

Staying hydrated through the winter can boost our immune system and give our body the support it needs to fight off infection. Drinking water and staying hydrated can also help us stay warmer in the winter months. Our body uses water to help maintain a temperature balance. When we are not hydrated, our bodies can become cold. So remember to stay hydrated; it's so important!
