Hello everyone!
Why buy overpriced, mass-produced scented sachets when you can easily make them yourself? You’re seriously not going to believe how easy it is! These DIY essential oil sachets can add a pleasant scent in unexpected places and give a tiny dose of aromatherapy.
Supplies:
- essential oil/s
- 1 cup of uncooked rice (brown or white)
- cotton muslin drawstring bags/ organza bags/ coffee filers/ tea bags (for loose tea)
- a mason jar
Tip: Instead of buying new pouches, go green! You can use an orphan sock and tie the top. If you’re crafty, you can sew a little bag from a scrap of fabric. You can also crochet/knit your own! Be sure to use a breathable cloth bag made of a material such as cotton or linen.
Method:
- Pour the rice into the jar.
- Add about 20 drops of essential oil. (I love using lavender)
- Cap the mason jar and shake.
- If the scent is not strong enough, add more essential oil. If it’s too potent, add a little more rice.
- Once you’ve found the perfect balance, use a spoon to scoop the scented rice into the bags.
- Close the bag. If using coffee filters, staple the open ends to close them.
When the scent starts to fade away (after a couple of months), you can repeat the process using the same rice and bags!
Try placing them in...
- a drawer
- a linen closet
- your rearview mirror (car freshener)
- your gym bag
- your suitcase
- smelly shoes
There are many other ways to use essential oil sachets; such as:
- a natural insect repellent for clothes, etc
- a natural pest repellent for books and photo albums
- a natural air freshener
- near your bedside or in your pillowcase to help you fall asleep
- when studying for better memory
- a gift to your friends and family
The beauty of these simple sachets is that you can tailor them to fit your preferences. Customise your own using any essential oil combo you love most! If you do not know how to blend essential oils, read this: Blending essential oils for beginners.
I have to try this DIY. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Thank you for sharing. I've been meaning to buy some things for the bathroom but I love this cheaper DIY method, especially since it allows me to customize the sachets with a seasonal blend oil!
