Cute and easy back to school hairstyles

Hello everyone!

I lived here in Malta all my life.  What many of you might not know is that: students in Malta have to wear a uniform.  They also have a strike dress code, and makeup is not allowed.  There are also regulations regarding hairstyles, schoolbags and the wearing of jewellery.

But since this post is all about back to school hairstyles, let's focus on hair regulations for a second.  Hairstyles "unbecoming the school uniform" (whatever that means) are strictly forbidden.  Students have to keep their hair tidy and tied back if it is long.   No "extravagant" hair colouring is allowed.  Only simple hair bands matching the school colours may be worn; other hair accessories are not allowed.  Needless to say that fashion-wise, my schooldays were not fun at all!

For this reason, in today's post, I will include simple hairstyles that can be worn by most hair types.  And for all the lucky ones who can rock their hair however they like, I will also include links to some cute and trendy hair accessories.

This time of the year is the perfect time to try on some new hairstyles for school.  Keep reading for some cute and easy hairstyles for school anyone can try, even those who oversleep.

1.  Double side buns aka space buns

If the hair buns feel loose, secure them with bobby pins; use as many bobby pins as you need.  Once you are happy with your style, always finish with hairspray to keep it looking pretty all day!

2.  High ponytail

I wear my hair up a lot - my tip is to flip your head upside down and brush your hair to the crown of your head. Then secure with a hair tie.

3.  Half-up, half-down

Half-up hairstyles are easy, totally effortless, and are perfect for a lazy hair day.  Try the half-up bun or top knot, the half-up pony or the half-up braid or double braid.

4.   Add a little quick sparkle to your look by clipping in a few barrettes or adding a trendy hair accessory.

5.  Braids

There are different variations that you can try out depending on your mood and the occasion.  Many are familiar with the French braid, the fishtail braid and the Dutch braid.  However, let's not overlook the traditional, simple three (3) strand braid; easy, practical and still cute.  This simple braid can be styled into an endless number of hairstyles as well.

This was my mum's go-to hairstyle for me in my primary school days.

6.  Braided ponytail

If you are bored with how you typically wear your ponytail, you could try the braided pony.   Starting just off centre, create a French braid down the side of your head.  Secure with a ponytail, and you're done!
