All about my ear piercings

Hello everyone!

Almost 5 weeks ago (26/02/2018) I had my right upper lobe pierced.  The reason why I got a new piercing is very simple: I already had two piercings in my left ear and I wanted two in my right ear as well.  After binge-watching videos on YouTube about piercings, I decided to make a blog post about my piercings.

In my left ear, I have a standard lobe and a tragus piercing.

Standard lobe piercing

Age: Around 2 months (1985).  My mum had my lobes pierced as a baby.  It is still fairly common to pierce babies here in Malta and in the '80s when I was born, it was even more so.  In fact, gold earrings were a very popular baptism gift for a baby girl.

Needle or gun: Gun.

Pain: I don't remember.

Healing process: Very easy, according to my mum.

Tragus piercing

Age: 16 years (back in 2001).  I was a first-year student at Junior College, I was finally free from the dreaded school uniform and the no make-up and no jewellery allowed policy.  

Needle or gun: I had it pierced with a gun.  I know that you should never pierce cartilage with a gun, but it was the early 2000s and I didn't know any better at the time. 

Piercing guns are not safe for two reasons, namely:  

1. They aren’t sanitary.  You can’t put a piercing gun in an autoclave (a sterilising machine).
2. A piercing gun forces a blunt-backed stud earring through the ear using great pressure.  That means the skin gets torn as the stud passes through, which could delay the healing process and lead to infection.

Pain: 0/10 - A throbbing sensation for a few minutes but no pain at all.

Healing process: Very easy.  A little sore to the touch for a couple of days but that's about it.

In my right ear, I have a standard lobe and a high lobe piercing.

Standard lobe piercing

I had both my left and right standard lobes pierced at two months old.

High lobe piercing

Age: 32 years (5 weeks ago)

Needle or gun: A disposable sterile gun.   

Pain: 2/10 - I definitely felt it!

Healing process: It was sore and a little swollen for a couple of weeks.  I couldn't sleep on it and I kept hitting it while getting dressed and undressed. Ouch!!  I applied undiluted tea tree oil on it daily to keep it clean and speed up the healing process. 

This is the earring (labret post) I'm currently wearing in my upper lobe.
