Hello everyone!
Most cleansers contain chemicals that can be harsh especially on sensitive skin. They strip away moisture from the skin making
it dry or flaky. If you have oily skin
and use harsh cleansers, it will cause the oil glands to produce more sebum,
making your face oilier.
Did you know that oil can be used for facial cleansing? Oil cleansing can be used on all skin types
and it is very beneficial to oily/acne prone skin. It may sound strange to use oil on oily skin
but in reality oil reduces sebum (oil) production and balances moisture. If you’re suffering from acne, this method
can work wonders for your skin. The oil
cleansing method can clear the skin from issues like oily skin, dry skin,
sensitive skin, blackheads, whiteheads and other problems caused by mild to
moderate acne. It also leaves your skin
healthy, balanced and moisturised.
So what oil/s should you use?
Some people use a mixture of oil is used like; castor oil, olive
oil, grape seed oil or coconut oil. Personally I like to use extra virgin
olive oil.
Olive oil has a very similar
PH to human skin, and is very nourishing with high antioxidant content. It moisturises,
nourishes, and heals the skin. It dissolves the oil on your
skin, pulling out impurities that build up in your pores. The quality of the olive
oil that you use is a very important factor. You need to use a high
quality extra virgin olive oil.
How to use:
- Rub about a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil into your face, in circular motion. Take particular care anywhere you have blackheads. Massage the olive oil in for around 1-2 minutes.
- Wet a clean face cloth with hot water, as hot as you can stand. Press the face cloth to your face and hold it there for a minute or so.
- Wipe the excess oil with the wet face cloth.
- Rinse your face with cold water.
- Pat your face dry.
- You do not need to apply a moisturiser.
What are “blackhead” and “whiteheads” exactly and why does the oil cleansing method work?
From Wikipedia:
A comedo is a clogged hair follicle (pore) in the skin. It is caused by the hormone androgen increasing sebum (oil) production. The excess oil glues bits of shedded keratin (skin debris) together, blocking the pore.
A comedo may be open to the air ("blackhead") or closed by skin ("whitehead").
The oil you massage on your face loosens and dissolves the hardened sebum blocking your pores!
Since I started using the method, my skin is glowing,
it's blackhead-free, it's plumper than before and my acne scars are slowly fading away! J If
you want healthier skin and a flawless complexion, I suggest you start
cleansing your face with extra virgin olive oil ASAP!
Have you used
this cleansing method before? Leave a
comment and let me know!
XOXO
