The soothing properties of basil

Hello everyone!
As you know, I strongly believe in using natural ingredients for DIY hair and skincare recipes.  Today’s post is about  basil; a perfect active ingredient for acne prone skin.
Basil is known for its soothing and toning properties, and can calm down blemishes and irritated skin.

Ingredients:
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Boiling water

 Method 1: Toner
  1. Steep a handful of basil leaves in a cup of boiling water for 10 to 20 minutes.
  2. Remove leaves, cool the basil tea.
  3. Apply toner to your problem areas with a cotton ball.
  4. Keep the toner refrigerated and discard once it becomes cloudy.

You could also use organic basil tea.

Method 2: Facial steaming
  1. Steam your face over a bowl of hot water combined with a small handful of basil leaves, for about 10 minutes.
  2. If your skin is very oily, squeeze half a lemon/lime into it.
  3. Follow up with a face mask or splash cold water/toner on your face, or gently rub an ice cube wrapped in a towel over your face to close the pores.

 Tip:

Treating acne with basil is not for everyone.  The herb may occasionally cause allergic reactions (skin rashes) when applied topically.  Always  patch test  before using basil on your face.
  • Dab a small amount of "basil tea" on the pulse of your wrist or the crook of your elbow.
  • Leave it unwashed for a period of 24- 48 hours.
  • Watch for signs of an allergic reaction. (redness or rash)
